Dear Parents and Carers,
We appreciate that you are likely to have some questions with the amber weather warning for this week. We have been given some important guidance from the DfE as we experience periods of hot weather, to ensure all children remain safe, comfortable, and well cared for.
What we are doing:
- Ensuring children have regular access to drinking water throughout the day.
- Encouraging frequent rest breaks and reducing strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day.
- Modified lunchtime arrangements
- Providing shaded areas and keeping indoor spaces well ventilated.
- Have fans in all classrooms and high level air extraction mechanisms in upstairs classrooms where there is no air conditioning
- Applying sensible routines to keep children cool, including appropriate clothing and monitoring for signs of heat-related illness.
- Move PE to the mornings where possible and adjustments made to PE in the afternoons.
- After school clubs will be adapted as much as possible, taking the warm weather into account. They may be subject to cancellation - Please look out for communication through the week.
What we ask you to do:
- Please ensure your child arrives with a named water bottle each day.
- Apply sunscreen before arriving
- Dress your child in light, loose-fitting summer uniform or PE clothing (avoiding synthetic fabrics) and provide a sun hat.
- Inform us if your child has any medical concerns that may be affected by heat.
We are following the latest government guidance to support children in school and early years settings during hot weather. You can view the full guidance here:
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Thank you for your support.
Kind regards,
Rebecca Willmouth
Head teacher
