Fire Service 5Cs Cost of Living Campaign
We understand this is a concerning time for our Hampshire and Isle of Wight residents. As a service we are concerned that as the cost-of-living crisis continues into the colder months, residents will become increasingly pressured to find alternative ways to cook hot meals, heat their home, dry washing and light their home, which could increase house fires.
Our cost-of-living campaign has been set up to advise members of the community about how to stay safe, whilst trying to cut down on costs.
The 5Cs is all about how to keep your family and home safe from fire this winter…
- Carbon Monoxide – Do you know it is your landlord’s job to make sure a carbon monoxide alarm is fitted in your home?
- Cooking – Barbecues and camping stoves are unsafe to use indoors and put you at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
- Chimneys – Get yours swept and checked professionally if you are planning to light an open fire.
- Clothing – Think about where you dry clothes. Clothes can get caught on electric heaters and burn.
- Candles – Keep lit candles away from curtains and bedding and be sure to blow out when you leave the room.
We are also promoting our FREE online Home Fire Safety Check, which is available to all and our Home Fire Safety visits, targeted at our most vulnerable to fire in our community.
Yours sincerely
