Job/Person Summary
We are looking to appoint a fantastic Senior Site Manager, with a strong sense of pride in their work & who believes in doing a job to the best of their ability, to join our split-site junior school & all-through primary school. You will help take care of our two wonderful school sites and be the lead for health & safety compliance. You will be a key part of the team, responsible for the security of both school sites, core aspects of health & safety and site maintenance. Ideally, you will hold a NEBOSH health & safety qualification or be willing to work towards this.
The ideal candidate will be hard-working, dependable, able to use their initiative, & be flexible in their approach to their duties. A range of practical and DIY skills are essential to ensure the school is safe and well-maintained.
We are looking for someone who can work in partnership with the school team to:
• work flexibly to meet the needs of both schools
• manage the school sites, grounds, & buildings to the highest standard possible
• maintain the highest standards of cleanliness throughout the school, liaising with & supervising the cleaning staff, & organise a programme of deep cleaning during the school holiday periods
• take overall responsibility for both sites’ security
• ensure the school sites are unlocked & locked daily (including out-of-hours to cover school events), carrying out security & safety checks; there may also be a requirement to open & close the school sites outside the core hours
• act as one of the main key holders for the school, attending emergency callouts when necessary
• undertake a range of minor repairs & redecoration within the school buildings & grounds
• carry out & record health & safety checks & ensure that Health & Safety & COSHH legislation is kept to
• manage & co-ordinate school employed site manager, caretakers & cleaners
• work flexibly to meet the needs of both school sites
• maintain a high level of confidentiality & professionalism
• show initiative, be proactive & have good organisational & time management skills
• share our school values & ethos
• have a good standard of literacy & numeracy
• have a good standard of IT literacy
• have a high degree of personal pride in their work
• Review school’s H&S policy for approval by relevant groups at least annually ensuring that staff, students and members of the public are aware of its contents and their responsibilities.
• have an oversight of safety management procedures to ensure that the school complies with legislative requirements and good practice e.g. Management of Legionella, COSHH, Asbestos, PAT testing etc
• advise Governors, SLT and other staff of H&S issues immediately escalating any item that poses and imminent risk of danger.
• respond to H&S enquires and complaints making recommendations and ensuring appropriate response.
• support SLT in school emergency response ensuring the risk assessments or documents are updated and shared as appropriate eg disaster management plan, school closure document, emergency evacuation or lockdown.
• write H&S related school policies and procedures (and contribute to H&S matter to other procedures) ensuring that they are kept up to date and shared as appropriate.
• liaise with HCC and team on the safe condition of the school building and sites, including ensuring that contractors work under the necessary controls.
• contribute to the school risk management strategy on health and safety matters.
• provide information reports to SLT/Governors, auditors and external bodies as required, including liaison with H&S link Governor.
• promote a positive culture in relation to H&S among staff, pupils and others including delivering training in person and in liaison with county.
• ensure that staff undertake mandatory H&S training and that proper records are kept.
• receive accident and near miss reports ensuring follow-up and recording including RIDDOR reporting, if necessary, with administrative support, carry out investigations where appropriate.
• create, update and disseminate risk assessments to school staff as appropriate.
• ensure that staff create, maintain and disseminate appropriate risk assessments particular to their areas and activities, providing the necessary training to staff as required.
• ensure staff are aware of all their responsibilities for H&S.
• working with admin, ensure that a sufficient team of retained first aiders is maintained and that they have current certification and specialised training where required.
• work with the site team and staff to ensure good standards of fire risk assessment, equipment, training, drills, record keeping etc.
• chair the safety committee with admin support and liaise with representatives as required.
• maintain up-to-date knowledge of H&S legislation and good practice relevant to the school, including attending training and network meetings as required.
• prioritise the safeguarding of all children and participate in training on safeguarding matters.
