Good Afternoon
Hampshire County Council has today launched a consultation seeking feedback on proposals to repurpose and close the Stubbington Study Centre site, to enable future investment in a new specialist secure welfare children’s home. As a school which has previously used Stubbington Study Centre, you are invited to comment on this proposal before the consultation closes on Monday, 10 February.
Both locally and nationally, there is increasing need for vital specialist residential care to support the most vulnerable children and those with the most complex needs, and a significant opportunity has arisen for the County Council to access funds from the Government to deliver a new specialist children’s home in Hampshire, to replace and expand the existing, ageing facility at Swanwick Lodge.
Having explored all the available options, we have identified the site at Stubbington Study Centre as the most appropriate location to deliver the new home, subject to the necessary funding and planning approval. However, to make way for the new home, the activities currently provided at the Study Centre would need to cease, and it is important that we understand the potential impacts of this before taking any final decisions.
We would welcome your views, to help inform a decision by the County Council’s Cabinet, which will be taken in March 2025. The consultation webpage contains the consultation response form and further information about the proposal which we would encourage you to read before taking part.
